Lessons Learned

This semester has been so wonderful for me.  Pretty much the best ever.  Life is just so, so good and it just keeps getting better and better!  I am probably the luckiest person in the world.  Actually, not probably...  I am most definitely the most lucky person in the world!  So, the focus of this blog post is to share some of the lovely lessons that I have learned this semester while at school.  I dunno, it could be to benefit new college freshmen, bored roommates and neighbors, or random people on Google mocking me.  You should probably be excited.  Lettuce see where this list will take us.  (Haha, vegetable joke...)  I am egg-selent.  I crack myself up.  (Haha, dairy joke...)  You will want to meat me someday.  (Haha, meat joke...)  Although you love my humor, you can't elope with me.  (Haha, fruit joke...)  Okay, that last one was cheesy.  (Haha, dairy joke...)  You oat it to me to keep reading though.  (Haha, grain joke...)  Okay, before you dessert me, we are going to go back to why I am writing this blog.  (Haha, dessert joke...)  Wooo, that was fun!  I don't even know where those food jokes came from.  Back on track.  Lessons learned this semester...

~ Saturday's are for homework!  As lame as this sounds, by killing yourself over on Saturday's you can have an amazing rest of the week.  I can't even begin to emphasize how wonderful it was to be days ahead in my homework and not having to worry about it when all of my roommates were staying up late and waking up early.  It was wonderful.  I honestly have had the best, most busy semester ever but it all turned out well because of doing homework on Saturdays.

~ College is so much better if you get involved.  I have gotten involved in so many things this semester and it has been wonderful.  Man, I can't even begin to tell you how much fun I have had and how many friends I have made.  This last semester I had so many things going on with Student Ambassadors and SRC and Education Society and I loved it so much.  I truthfully think that it kept me sane.  Silly, I know…

~ Smile!  It is as simple as that, smile all the time.  There have been days when I have come home from school and classes and my cheeks were sore from smiling too much.  Isn’t that silly?  I would come home from class and my smiler would hurt.  Silly, silly, silly.  People notice though.  Today for FHE my ward met with President and Sister Clark and I sat on the front row and Sister Clark afterward thanked me for smiling throughout our discussion.  I love it!  :)

~Okay, don’t judge me on this one…  Be kind to all people even if they annoy you to death.  There is a particular girl in one of my classes who pretty much drives me crazy.  She doesn’t intend to, but I can’t help with being annoyed by her.  Anyhows, even though I feel this way, she is probably a sweet girl and definitely a loved daughter of God so I need to be kind to her no matter what.  (Which I do…)

~ Okay, don’t judge me on this one either.  :)  Brace yourself for something that will forever change your life!  I have a couple of friends that are brothers.  One of them posted a picture on facebook of a certain something and talked about how wonderful this certain something was.  I tried this certain something and it was super wonderful.  This certain something changed something tolerable to something so much better.  Are you ready?  Toasted poptarts with butter…  Do you think that this is revolting?  Are you horrified?  Try it.  Put the poptarts in the toaster and as soon as they come out, butter them.  The butter melts into the frosting and makes it so it is yummy instead of dry and bland.  Don’t trust me on this though, try it for yourself.  It will change your life and you will never go back.  Yeah, I learned the value of buttered poptarts this semester.

~ “Traditions, traditions.  Without our traditions, our lives would be as shaky as… as… as a fiddler on the roof.”  Set traditions, it is fun!  Every Friday at 10 or 11 my Celestial friend and I have bagels at a little shop thing on campus.  It is a super fun and a super easy tradition.  Late night, glow in the dark tennis too.  On Fridays we would play tennis.  Actually, we would attempt to play tennis.  Neither of us was very good.  It was still fun to have these traditions though.  Set traditions.

~ This one is simple, but just ask.  One of my teachers mentioned wanting a TA for the next semester.  I asked her about it and she said I could be her TA next fall.  She also told me that she was planning on having me be her TA next spring.  I pretty much have a job lined up for at least the next couple of semesters of college just because I asked a question.

~ I love this one, but dream big and follow those dreams.  I want to accomplish so much in my life.  I dream on changing the world.  I dream of traveling everywhere.  I dream of touching someone’s life so greatly that they could honestly say if they hadn’t have known me they wouldn’t be the people that they are.  Yeah, those are just three things I want to do and they aren’t really small things but I still dream of doing them and I plan on doing them.  Back when I was a whippersnapper I had dreams but they aren’t as grand as they are now but it is wonderful because they are truly changing me for the better.  Here is an example!  I love BYU-Idaho and I truly believe it is the best school ever.  Anyhows, I dream of making BYU-Idaho a better place so I decided to do it.  I applied for a Student Representative Counsel position for the school so I can fulfill my dream of making this University a better place.  Not only am I setting dreams, but I am living my dreams.  Do it, it will seriously change your life!

~  Finally, something to lighten the mood.  : )  This one I fail epically on…  After you wash your laundry, put it away.  I haven’t been doing this and I have a lot of laundry to fold and hang up.  It may take a year to do.  It will happen soon.  Wish me luck.  :)

Well Friends, that is my lovely advice.  If you take nothing else from this blog post, next time you have poptarts, butter them.  :) Anyhows, I am gonuh go to bed and stuff so peace out!

The End!

  1. Very good, sound advice. I have one more for you: Talk to your roommates individually. I didn't this every semester, and I can honestly say I didn't have a roommate that I didn't get along with. This doesn't mean I was busom buddies with all of them, but I could help keep peace in the apartment.

Also, the pop tart thing sounds delicious. Butter makes everything better. It's a fact of life.

  2. Rachael I love you! That is a super good one and I agree. I should work on that and get to know each roommate individually. You are a wise sage. Have you tried the poptarts yet? :)
